From our research we have stumbled across Schön Magazine, created by the energy of photographic Zine Nineteen74.
As well as having a really good layout, with high-gloss pages and brilliant photoshoots, they also use their online presence to their full potential. Of course they have their own Twitter and Facebook page to keep in touch with their readers and fellow creatives but it is their website that really caught our interest.
Their website is almost 'blog-like' with up-to-date posts and videos being uploaded everyday to ensure that they portray that they are in touch with the creative world. They also showcase all of their magazines with a really effective flick-through system which makes a page-turning noise as well to really add to the effect. It also allows readers to view the magazine in 'full-screen' mode, search the magazine for particular content and also to zoom in on any of the pages to get a closer view of the text or photography.
We felt that this was a really effective way of promoting a magazine online as it gives a sneak preview for readers and is easily accessible to have a quick look through.
Their online presence not only allows them to show print content online but also little extras that could not be featured in the actual magazine. This could be extra photography or interviews but the most useful extra is the ability to include videos within their magazine. Readers can play these live while reading through the magazine and it is these little extras that make having an online presence worthwhile and successful.
