ISSUE ONE: BETHEN'S PROFILE PICTURES

This is Bethen Morson, below is a selection of her profile pictures, take a peek and see how you percieve her...

GRAPHICS: A PERSONAL TOUCH

As each Issue of Glimpse will focus on a different individual, we wanted to bring in the personal element. We think that using the person we are focusing on for Issue One should hand write a few tag lines, headings, articles for us, we think that this could look really hand made, creative and personal, and break up areas of computerised graphics, reminding the reader that there is an individual behind their online presence.

We love handwriting, it is all so different and can tell you a lot about a personality.

Hand writing has been embraced by Ruvan Wijescooriya for his exhibition invitations as well as No Zine, who have used it for titles. These are seen below, and both are really stunning pieces.

GRAPHICS: INVESTIGATION THEME

We want the title and some headers inside our Zine to be inspired by the detective/stalker theme. A way that we thought this could be achieved would be to cut and paste different newspaper letters into words, or include highlighted circles or underlines around key words. The images below show our inspiration, and these clearly look like heavily documented, investigated articles, the effect we want to create.

PHOTOGRAPHY EFFECTS: CREASING

After Amelia from Amelia's Magazine came in to lecture us Second years on Monday, myself and Hannah were interested in an image she showed us that had fold marks in it. We thought that this gave the effect that somebody had been carrying around the particular image in their pockets for a long period of time, as if obsessed by the person featured within it. To further this I have quickly found a few other 'aged' photos with interesting crease marks in, which we could adopt to work over the tops of our images, to give them more of a story.

DON'T KNOW YET ZINE

'Don't Know Yet' is a photocopied zine with colour covers and monotone pages inside, which helps to keep it low budget. Myself and my team mate Hannah like the hand made, personal touch with the scrabble graphics, torn bits of paper with handwriting laid over the top of images, and doodles framing pictures onto pages. We think that hand written sections really help to reinforce the idea that this is a zine not a magazine, and made by an individual person, sharing their views and opinions.

'What would you do if you were Queen for the day?' This page would have been nicely followed up with peoples responses! We would like to consider questions to ask the public, such as 'What would you do if you were Bethen [the stalked person for the project] for the day'? This would help to understand how people see Bethen through her presence on the social networking site.

RUVAN WIJESCOORIYA

Ruvan Wijescooriya seems to capture images that represent the style of the 'Facebook Album'. These are casual, un-staged and perhaps considered as embarrassing shots that do not present people in a way that they would want to be seen or thought of.

All these images look as if they could have been lifted from Facebook itself. The image below seems to represent the view from a drunk persons perspective. I love the simplicity.

After discovering Wijescooriya I did some research into exhibitions of his, I stumbled across 'Dearest of Dearest', which I thought relevant to the stalker theme. The invitation was hand written which heightens the personal quality. I thought that the show itself had an interesting lay out of all the photos kept at the original size and completely covering patches of the wall.
