ZEENE

We found this brilliant Zine from our Glimpse Twitter account. ZEENE are another publication that will feature at the Raw Print Fair and are based in Loughborough.
They do some really beautiful, handwritten interviews which have really inspired us for our own Zine and the handwritten / scrapbook feel that we want.
Examples of all these interviews are below, and we really want our interview with Bethen to look along these lines so as to show off her personality through what she's able to write and draw throughout the interview.

We also really like their 'Shelves' section where readers and creatives send in pictures of their shelves to give an insight into their lives. We felt that this really reflected the theme of our zine by giving an insight into an individuals life without giving away any 'real' information.

Their blog has some other really interesting posts including more content for their zine, interesting videos and information about different creatives.

SCHON: ZINE INSPIRATION

As well as looking at Schon Magazine for their online presence we have also taken inspiration from some of their features which we feel reflect the kind of themes that Glimpse Zine should take on.

Firstly there's a collection of photos that document what has been seen over two days. We love how a person's entire day can be documented with photos and enable other people to experience the same sights.
We are really interested in doing something like this with Bethen, to document a journey of Bethen's  throughout one of her days.

The photoshoot that focuses on the face really interested us because of the high-gloss effect which we would really like to use within our Zine to contrast against some lo-fi images. The last two images have also become a great inspiration for us in terms of our 'Good Day/Bad Day' idea as a really simple way of pulling this off. Just from the change in expression from a 'perfect' pose to pulling a face creates a contrast between an image that you would happily show off to others against one that you may delete off the camera or keep a secret.

ISSUE ONE: BETHEN'S PROFILE PICTURES

This is Bethen Morson, below is a selection of her profile pictures, take a peek and see how you percieve her...

GRAPHICS: A PERSONAL TOUCH

As each Issue of Glimpse will focus on a different individual, we wanted to bring in the personal element. We think that using the person we are focusing on for Issue One should hand write a few tag lines, headings, articles for us, we think that this could look really hand made, creative and personal, and break up areas of computerised graphics, reminding the reader that there is an individual behind their online presence.

We love handwriting, it is all so different and can tell you a lot about a personality.

Hand writing has been embraced by Ruvan Wijescooriya for his exhibition invitations as well as No Zine, who have used it for titles. These are seen below, and both are really stunning pieces.

GRAPHICS: INVESTIGATION THEME

We want the title and some headers inside our Zine to be inspired by the detective/stalker theme. A way that we thought this could be achieved would be to cut and paste different newspaper letters into words, or include highlighted circles or underlines around key words. The images below show our inspiration, and these clearly look like heavily documented, investigated articles, the effect we want to create.
